Sparks ahoy!
Good fun was had by all on Tuesday night with our first Art Sparks Creative Gathering featuring the fabulous Lily Parker, Nathan Curnow and Amie Brulee. Here’s some pics taken by local photographer Aldona Kmiec:
Enjoy the Jade show tonight! with visits from local musicians Birahny Lawrence, Matt Malone and Aaron d’Arcy. And next week we’re chatting to Jo Jo Smith and the lads from Gold Fields. Sweet!
Music, Art and Sunshine, Amen!
I have been lucky enough to get along to the Straight to You Nick Cave tribute and Harvest Festival in the last week, and been treated to a feast of local and international stars!
Despite the obvious flaws of: in the former- a distinct ‘Variety Show’ feel, someone calling Ballarat ‘the outskirts of Melbourne’ and perhaps the complete uniqueness and inimitability of Cave himself ,and in the latter- long queues for food, drinks and amenities, how wonderful it is to gather and share this great live music and energy.
Portishead were amazing, wowing us all with their singular and emotional sound and fantastic visuals (including an image of lasers coming out of Tony Abbot’s devil eyes!). Glory Box and Roads, ah my heart! I also really dug TV on the Radio who I didn’t know very well, and well done to all the beautiful artist installations. Who knew Werribee could be so stink free?!
Highlights at Straight to You were definitely Kram on the drums, and Adalita in all her rocking out glory. I’m also a fan of Lanie Lane though the cape was a bizarre costume choice, and thanks to Alex from Sparkadia for his beautiful voice and daggy dancing. Keeping it real yo. Check out a great review from ABC’s Jarrod Watt here.
