A couple of things to check out & support

Our pals Speed Orange just got this great review in Beat Magazine  for their latest album
http://www.myspace.com/speedorange/blog?bID=539150636

(if you ask us nicely we might even give you a copy…)

& the fabulous Known World Bookshop in Sturt St offering a wonderful selection of quality secondhand books, and an espresso coffee bar, in a 1930s Art Deco-inspired atmosphere. Not to mention groovy accommodation upstairs.  You can also use their online service, but there’s nothing like browsing for treasures in this beautiful shop. (They also have yummy biscuits). Support books now!

Greetings Tinderboxians,

We ran out of time last night to play Going Down Swinging tracks but will get onto it next week. As I said last night- and I’ve gotta say it didn’t roll of the tongue- spring is springing. She’s not quite there but you can feel it in the cherry blossoms, slightly longer days, and perhaps if you’re like us, in the need to get boogie-ing!

Last night’s playlist:

The Reason: Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings

100 Days, 100 Nights: Shazza

Islands: XX

Summer is the Champion: Laura Veirs

Eti Ufok: The Ceejebs

Everywhere I Go: The Black Keys

Castles Made of Sand: Red Hot Chilli Peppers (live 1989)

China Girl: David Bowie

Move on Up: The Dynamics

In Gratitude for this Magnificent Day: Eels

I’m a Hummingbird: Eels

Viewed From the Spire: Stina Nordenstam (love her)

The Most Beautiful Girl (in the room): Flight of the Conchords

The Longest Shadows: High Places **a copy of this cd is still up for grabs-drop us a line!

Phoenix: Lisztomania

All Day: Martina Topley Bird

The Dark of the Matinee: Franz Ferninand

Magpies: Joan as Policewoman

One Nation Under a Groove: Funkadelic

Boogaloo: Mulatu Astatke (ethiopian funk master, not egyptian! and I can’t blame that one on in being midnight anymore…)

Rescue Me: Fontella Bass

When Debbie’s Back From Texas: Stina Nordenstam

Strange News From A Distant Star next week with writings and general fun with Lauren back on the musical tidbits, weather etc, woo!

New timeslot ‘n’ tings

Dream theme will be replaying tonight from 7-9, good tunes for good times…

Join us next week at the new timeslot of 6-8 pm, right after the top 40 for something completely different (ie. no gratuitous vocoders in the Tinderbox!) Just pure exciting, igniting and delighting (some Led Zep, Sly & Funkadelic, Bowie and loving the ladies as usual- Bjork, Nina Simone, Bat For Lashes, Cat Power, Hope Sandoval, Sharon Jones-they’re rockin the casbah)

We’ll be welcoming all our regular listeners alongside new ones so playing all our faves, old and new, near and far, as well as playing you some great tracks from the brand new Going Down Swinging no.30. Then the following week we’ll get back into Strange News from a Distant Star with Voice Fm’s very own Iris reading for us, and other great writers and musicians joining us over the rest of the year. We’ll also be telling you about the creative project we’ve been working on that will be hitting Ballarat the evening of Saturday Oct 2nd so put it in the diary! (weavelength.blogspot.com)

One of the plans, as an extension of the show is to host creative gatherings around town for people to get together and share their creative stuff so stay tuned for those too or let us know if you’d like to help organise (ideas for venues, themes etc).

Enjoy and keep warm!
